As a beauty enthusiast, I’ve tried many KBeauty/Korean Beauty brands & while many claim to be soothing, some sadly do not meet the mark. However, after discovering the Skin1004 Madagascar Centella range late last year, my skincare game has tremendously changed, especially when it comes to the soothing department & I’m so glad to have tried them.
A big thank you to the Skin1004 team for sending these lovelies over to me. While all of these are gifted in exchange for my reviews, please know that my reviews are unbiased. Some links in this post are affiliate links too. Your support means a lot to me! xx
Context – I have oily, sometimes dehydrated skin type & live in a hot, humid country (Malaysia). My skin can sometimes be inflamed during hormonal changes or when the weather just gets too insanely hot.
As there are a lot of products to review, I’ll be selecting four of my favourite finds from the Centella range to review. If you have any particular product you’d like me to review, let me know in the comments! I’ll share them on my Instagram channel
Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule

Key Features
Made with 100% Pure Centella (only 1 ingredient in the list!), this ampoule claims to soothe skin whilst replenishing our skin’s hydration level. This also claims to be suitable for many skin types, even sensitive ones.
Texture
Unlike a typical ampoule which is usually thicker in consistency, this is super light – almost like water! Even with such a lightweight texture, this still hydrates the skin pretty decently without any stickiness & its very layerable too – depending on how much hydration your skin needs.

My Thoughts
As a person with oily skin, I love using this as my base serum (I like layering my serums) before applying a more viscous one on top of it. In the AM, I use this on its own & its more than enough for me. In terms of soothing effect, it works wonders in calming the inflamed breakouts in my chin area. This also comes in a few sizes, depending on your needs.

All Skin Types – Oily / Acne-Prone / Irritated Skin / Inflamed Skin / Sensitive / Dry Skin (but use more than 1 layer for extra hydration)
Where to Buy
Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Air Fit Suncream Light SPF30 PA++++

Key Features
A non-nano mineral or physical sun cream that helps to protect the skin from harmful UV rays. Contains Zinc Oxide which is more suitable for those with sensitive skin, plus Centella Asiatica to help soothe the skin.
Texture
Creamy texture that blends wonderfully without any dryness or tugging on the skin. For those with oily skin type (like myself), I find that using it as a moisturiser & sun cream (2 in 1 product, if you will) works really well and albeit it being a physical sunscreen, this is quite moisturising on its own! The absorption rate is also super fast, great for a quick morning skincare routine.

My Thoughts
Although it claims to be a physical sunscreen, this has minimal to ZERO white cast. I am so impressed with Skin1004’s formulation. Its a dream for sensitive skin types because most physical sunscreen in the market has quite an apparent white cast or sometimes, can be too drying on the skin, but not this baby!

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Cream

Key Features
A beautiful, no-fuss moisturiser that helps to calm the skin with its Centella Asiatica extract, nourishes the skin with squalene & helps to lightly brighten & even out the skin tone with niacinamide.
Texture
Creamy texture that truly nourishes the skin without any stickiness – even for my oily skin. It doesn’t leave an oily film after & absorbs decently fast. As it coats the skin with an ample amount of hydration, this makes a perfect base for makeup as well.

My Thoughts
Protecting our skin barrier and keeping it well moisturised all day & night long is key to healthy skin & this ticks all the right boxes! It’s a simple, no-fuss cream that can be used by almost anybody, honestly. It gives a nice glowy finish once it is fully absorbed. However, it does carry some essential oil down the ingredients list so if that what you are sensitive to, you can opt for their soothing cream (review down below)

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Soothing Cream

Key Features
A soothing cream that helps to quickly soothe irritated/inflamed skin & contains 3 inter-skin liquid components (Fatty Acid, Ceramide & Cholesterol) that helps to deeply hydrate & protect our skin barrier.
Texture
A gel type that is surprisingly rich but lightweight at the same time, if you get what I mean. It absorbs faster than the cream (above) & leaves a glowy finish as well. It’s more cooling than the latter too, with higher concentration of Centella Asiatica extract (72%!), hence the name – Soothing Cream.

My Thoughts
Omg, this is a new found love. My oily skin, which sometimes can be dehydrated deep inside adores this cream. Although it is gel in texture, it doesn’t lose out in the moisture department & tbh, its pretty comparable to the cream too! I love using this every night & day, especially when its near the time of the month, where my skin can get easily irritated with more breakouts. My partner was having a bad itch on his body one night & I asked him to apply this. In just 5 minutes, his itchines subsided & asked me if he can has this whole tube to himself LOL.

Creams Differences?

So which cream should you pick? Based on my experience & research on their ingredients, here’s my verdict:
Texture – Centella Cream has a more occlusive creamy texture while the Soothing Cream is gel but with a slight weight to it
Ingredients – Centella Cream has lesser % of Centella Asiatica but contains more skin-healing & nourishing ingredients. Soothing Cream has whooping 72% of Centella Asiatica extracts, which is way higher than the latter with a more cooling effect. Centella Cream also contains some Essential Oil (EO) so probably not the best for very, very sensitive skin.
Scent – both are fragrance-less
All in all, Skin1004 is a pleasant surprise & has quickly become one of my favourite kBeauty brands. The creams, ampoules and sunscreen are now some of my daily staples in my skincare routine too. They also carry a whole lot of other ranges (hydration, brightening) which is really intriguing! Definitely adding them into my very long “skincare to try” wishlist, especially that brightening range! You can check out their full range here.
