Grumpy Goat & Friends

Contrary to what the header suggests, this is a cafe review and not, one of a kid’s petting zoo. Though I wouldn’t blame you at all if you came here looking for fluffy animals to pet because if I’m being honest, I would never have thought of naming a cafe after a bearded farm animal, & especially not one that was grumpy.

Located in the up and coming township of Seri Alam, the newly revamped Grumpy Goat cafe is an impressive upgrade from its previous second-floor location. A stylish double-storey glasshouse facade with a spacious cabin-like interior, loving the vibes of their new space with its rustic wooden theme, comfy sofas and smattering of green plants.

We went on a Friday afternoon and although the place was busy and the upstairs of the cafe being closed for now, we managed to be seated without having to wait long.

The menu consisted of mostly their creative take on Western offerings, with a range of pasta, mains, soups and desserts to choose from. It was interesting to note that there were also vegetarian options such as baked ratatouille and potato cakes.  You can have a look at their menu here: Grumpy Goat Menu. There is bound to be something for everyone, even the grumpiest of goats!

Nyonya Style Spaghetti with Marinated Chicken Fillet (RM26)
Spaghetti with light nyonya cream sauce, seasonal vegetables, spiced chicken thigh

This one was a favourite. The nyonya cream sauce was an interesting medley of sour and creamy with a little hint of heat. Appetizingly delicious, the sauce reminded me somewhat of a modified asam pedas. The grilled chicken that was served along with the pasta was nicely done too, succulent & juicy on the inside yet crispy on the outside . A surprisingly delightful fusion of flavours that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Green Lamb Spaghetti (RM26)
Spaghetti with green curry lamb, broccoli, cauliflower & assorted mushrooms

Another interesting combination. An overall OK pasta dish but I thought the flavours did not stand out as much. It tasted less like your usual Thai green curry, but more like a herb-y light carbonara with a distinct herb taste that I could not quite put my finger on. The lamb chunks served were tender & flavourful though.

Pan Grilled Lamb Shoulder with Black Pepper Sauce (RM38)
Pan grilled Lamb shoulder with fries and butter vegetables & choice of black pepper or mint sauce

“Can’t be visiting Grumpy Goat without having a taste of their mutton”, paraphrased from the friend who had ordered this main. I must say there is profound truth in that. & although I don’t really know what is good lamb, I enjoyed the piece I tried. Not overly gamey and paired well with the black pepper sauce. I do know though that the fries it was served with were good !

Tiramigoat (RM10)
Grumpy Goat Signature specialty coffee

“Cake in a cup”. Their specialty Coffee was topped with sweet frothy cream and dusted generously with cocoa powder. This was like having tiramisu in cup form !

All in all, Grumpy Goat cafe 2.0 definitely goat our stamp of approval ! Lovely space and delicious food, would certainly want to make another visit here to try out the rest of their menu.

The cafe in located on a pretty huge compound together with a few other interesting finds. Think food stores with Instagrammable outdoor seating and fairy lights. There is a Family Mart & drive- through Starbucks within the vicinity and popular food hub, The J is within walking distance as well. Abundant parking lots are available so finding a parking here should not a problem unless you come at peak hours. Definitely a place worth coming back to explore !
